Vehicle history reports

Carfax and AutoCheck by VIN, on demand.

Check for free how many records each provider has for a VIN, then request the full report only when it is worth it. You get a link to the HTML report, an optional PDF, and your balance after the charge.

How it worksILLUSTRATIONCarfax · AutoCheck
GET /reports/{type}/{vin}
  • html
  • pdf
  • base64
  • balance_after

How it works

  1. 1

    Check records (free)

    Call /reports/check-records/{vin}. It returns how many Carfax and AutoCheck records exist and the vehicle name. Nothing is charged.

  2. 3

    Use the result

    Open the html link, add pdf=1 when you need a PDF file, and read balance_after to know what is left.

Check a VIN now

Free: it only counts the records.

Free
GET /reports/check-records/{vin}

Free test VIN

Use this VIN to try both steps. Reports for it are free.

Billing

  • Reports are paid from one USD balance, shared with Pay per VIN. /reports/balance shows it.
  • check-records, balance and my-history are free.
  • With days=N a report you already generated in the last N days is returned again instead of creating a new one.
  • When the balance is too low the API answers 402 with insufficient funds and charges nothing.
  • When a provider has no history for the VIN the API answers 400 with records not found for this vin number and charges nothing.

Good to know

  • The VIN must be exactly 17 characters; anything else returns 400.
  • pdf=1 can take 40 to 60 seconds. Use a long timeout and never send the same request twice: a duplicate gets 409 generation already in progress, with Retry-After.
  • base64 holds the encrypted report body. Add exclude_base_64=1 when you only need the links.
  • The html and pdf values are links to files. Save the link or the file on your side.
