How we write our guides

The articles on AuctionsAPI are written by the team that runs our data collection. This page says who we are, where the facts come from and how we correct mistakes.

Who writes them

The AuctionsAPI data team: the people who build and maintain our collectors for Copart, IAAI, Encar and more than a hundred marketplaces, and who answer our customers' questions about that data. We have done this for five years.

That is the point of view of every guide. We see raw listings every day: how each site writes a damage label, a price or a mileage, what a sold lot looks like a week later, and what breaks when a site changes. When an article explains a field or a label, it is the way we handle it in our own data.

Where the facts come from

Rules and definitions come from primary sources, linked in the text: US federal agencies such as NHTSA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the EU customs and tariff pages, national registration authorities, Korean statutory forms, and the auctions' and marketplaces' own help pages.

Facts about our API come from its public contract (the documentation and the OpenAPI file) and from the code that serves it. We do not repeat claims from other blogs.

Numbers and examples

We do not publish invented statistics. A figure is either taken from a source named next to it or it is not there.

Example records, VINs, lot numbers and prices are made up and say so; example VINs still pass the check-digit test so they work in code. When an article walks through a calculation, every input is written down as an assumption, so you can replace it with your own.

Rules that change

Customs duty, taxes, registration and export rules differ by country and change often. Our guides explain how they are built and link the official page; they are not legal or tax advice. For a real import, check the current rules with your customs broker or the authority in your country.

Independence

AuctionsAPI is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Copart, IAAI, Encar or any other auction or marketplace named in the articles; their names identify the source of the data. Our API only returns data: nobody can take part in an auction through it.

Our own product is mentioned where it genuinely answers the question, at most a couple of times per article.

Updates and corrections

Every article shows when it was published and, after a real change, when it was updated. If something is wrong or out of date, write to us on Telegram @AuctionApiSupport. We fix it and the date changes with it.
